Convention for the Prohibition of Fishing with Long Driftnets in the South Pacific
The purpose of this regional Convention, which was adopted on 24 November 1989 in Wellington, New Zealand, is to restrict and prohibit the use of drift nets in the South Pacific region in order to conserve marine living resources.

The Parties agree "to take measures not to encourage the use of drift nets by prohibiting their use and the transhipment of catches, by drift net processing or import of products to and from drift net catches and possession of drift nets and by restricting access of vessels using drift nets to ports."
