ENVIRONMENT DAY EVENTS BANGLADESH
World Environment Day 2003 Celebrations
World Environment Day is going to be observed in Bangladesh
along with other nations of the world on 5th June, 2003. In
observance of the day, The Ministry of Environment and Forest
has undertaken an special programme at Nachole, Chapai Nababgong.
Begum Khaleda Zia, Hon'ble Prime Minister, Government of the
People's Republic of Bangladesh will inaugurate the programme.
The
ceremony will be chaired by Mr. Shajahan Siraj, Hon'ble
Minister for Environment and Forest.
Mr. Jafrul Islam Chowdhury, Hon'ble State Minister for
Environment and Forest will be present as the special guest.
Mr. Syed Monjur Hossain Hon'ble MP and UNDP's Country
Representative Mr. Jorgen Lissener
will also be present as honorable guest at the ceremony.
Environment Fair
In
observance of the Day, the Ministry of Environment and Forest
and Department of Environment have chalked out elaborate
programme. The programme include a two day 3-4 June 2003
Environment Fair at Osmani Memorial Hall.
Mr. Shajahan Siraj, Hon'ble Minister for Environment and
Forest will inaugurate the Fair.
Mr. Jafrul Islam Chowdhury, Hon'ble State Minister for
Environment and Forest and Mr. Sabihuddin Ahmed,
Secretary, Minister for Environment and Forest will be present
in the Inauguration of the Fair.
Open Discussion:
“Water and Climate
The theme of this
year’s World Environment Day is “Water-Two Billion People
are Dying for It !”.
Marking the day, Forum of Environmental Journalists of
Bangladesh (FEJB) and IUCN are jointly organising under the
Sustainable Environment Management Programme (SEMP) of MOEF and
UNDP an Open Discussion titled “Water and Climate” at 12
noon on June 3, 2003 at Osmani auditorium.
Water Resources
Minister Mr. Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram MP will honour
the session as the Chief Guest while State Minister for
Environment and Forest Mr. Jafrul Islam Chowdhury,
Environment Secretary Mr. Sabihuddin Ahmed, Water
Secretary Md. Sayef Uddin and Holiday Editor AZM
Enayetullah Khan will be the Special Guests.
Water expert and
environmentalist Dr. Ainun Nishat will present the
Key-Note paper. FEJB Chairman Quamrul Islam Chowdhury
will chair the Session.
