Begum Khaleda Zia yesterday blamed the opposition for the deterioration of law and order and said after losing popular support they were left with no issue but to destabilise the government through violence in a planned way.

Opposition leader Sheikh Hasina yesterday lashed out at atrocities and torture on her party leaders and workers, and wondered whether in the name of democracy, "martial law" was in force in the country, reports UNB.

A 33-member preparatory committee has been formed to hold the convention against "Awami misrule and terrorism" on April 11-12, reports UNB. BNP Secretary General and LGRD Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan has been made convenor of the committee while Food Minister Tariqul Islam its member secretary.

The High Court yesterday fixed March 13 as the date of passing order on a petition of contempt of court against Sheikh Hasina for her reported adverse comments against the judiciary in an interview published in the New York- based weekly ‘Thikana’, reports BSS.
